A 3 hour in person swiss darning workshop for knitwear at the Little Art Hub in Galashiels.
Location: 17 Channel St, Galashiels, TD1 1BJ
This will be a relaxed and friendly workshop suitable for beginners, where you will learn to colourfully mend your knitwear using swiss darning, or duplicate stitch. We will start from the beginning, using swiss darning as reinforcement, and then learn how to use it to repair holes. The aim of workshop is to leave you confident to start repairing your own knitwear in a creative way.
Swiss darning is also a very useful skill if you would like to invisibly mend your knitwear.
All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own knitwear to discuss or work on if you would like.
Tea and coffee and nibbles will be provided.
All places reserved on this swiss darning knitwear workshop are non-refundable.
Continue reading below for further information about the location and getting here.
If you can’t make it to an in person workshop, I also teach this swiss darning workshop online.
Galashiels is about an hour south of Edinburgh, and easily accessible by train, which takes 50 minutes. The Little Art Hub is a 5 minute walk from the train station.
For a full train timetable, please check Scotrail or Traveline Scotland.
If you’re travelling by car, there is a car park just off the High Street behind the Iceland supermarket, which is a couple of minutes walk from the venue.
If you’d like to explore the area a bit while you’re here, then the Great Tapestry of Scotland is a minutes walk from the Little Art Hub, and worth a visit if you’d like to see the history of Scotland in stitched panels. There is some really wonderful stitching on display! Worth spending a morning looking around, and they have a cafe too.
Abbotsford House is just across the river from Galashiels, and there is a lovely walk along the river there which is free. You can also pay to view the house and walled garden, and there is a cafe there too.
Melrose is about a 5 minute drive from Galashiels and has a beautiful ruined Abbey, plenty of cafes and places to eat and lots of nice little independent shops.
If you decide to spend longer (a weekend for example) in the area, please just get in touch and I’ll be happy to suggest some places to visit or nice walks.
